School Center

Not having a designated place for school stuff has been quite hard this year.  School papers get lost, folders are lost, backpacks strewn about and the kids forget to take important things back with them to the teacher.  So, I spent the time to figure out how to turn this cabinet into a designated place for all things school related.  Then a few measurements were made and a quick jaunt to Target was taken.
Here is what I found:
* The three containers on the bottom shelf are for the backpacks.  Lids to hide the unsightliness.
* The red baskets in the glass compartments are the "in" and "out" boxes.  I have one "in  box" for incoming papers and graded items.  I have three "out boxes" for anything each child has to take back to school.
* The middle top drawer is for the supplies needed to do homework.  Markers, pens, crayons, glue... you get it.  I bought four stacking containers to place these items in.  It's easy to remove them and bring them to the table when needed.
* The bottom middle drawer is for library books.
* The two red canisters are for glue sticks and colored pencils.
* And finally the metal latticed tray is for my books, hubby's misc items and generally to keep off random unwanted things off the top of that cabinet.  I don't know about you, but any open flat space in our house is a welcome invitation to gather clutter.

I am super excited to have some organization that will (crossing fingers) work!

Praise God for hubby having a subbing job this month and a few babysitting jobs so I could take this little Target trip and organize my life a little and give myself some sanity.

  1. Love it! It looks great. I'll have to keep something like this in mind when all three kiddos are in school.

    1. Thanks, Nicole! I was banging my head against the wall with the disorganization and K's teacher was giving me grief about my DD's lack of responsibility at school. I prayed about it and the idea popped into my head to use this cabinet. It was only used for misc. random things before. I chalk it up to a blessing. :D
